Professional Background

Tomáš’s Journey in River Cycling

How It Started

Tomáš discovered his passion for river cycling during a sabbatical tour along the Vltava in 2008. What began as a personal adventure quickly transformed into something more serious. He realized that while the routes were beautiful, they weren’t well documented or consistently maintained. That observation changed everything.

Rather than just complain about the gaps in information, he decided to pursue formal education in tourism management at Charles University in Prague. It’s the kind of practical decision that makes sense when you’re genuinely motivated by solving a real problem.

Building Expertise Through Field Work

Over the past 16 years, Tomáš has transitioned from recreational cyclist to professional route developer. He’s personally cycled over 8,000 kilometers across Central European waterway routes, and has surveyed and documented more than 2,400 kilometers of Czech river cycling paths. That’s not theoretical knowledge — it’s been earned one kilometer at a time.

His work has influenced regional tourism boards and contributed to the official designation of several major cycling corridors. The critical sections of the Elbe Trail that are now well-maintained? He helped make that happen. The lower Morava bike route system that’s become increasingly popular? He was part of that development.

Current Work at Tmventuregroup

At Tmventuregroup, Tomáš combines field research with educational content creation. He doesn’t sit in an office — he’s regularly out cycling sections of routes to ensure information is accurate and accessible. His approach emphasizes practical, tested knowledge gained through thousands of kilometers of personal experience rather than theoretical analysis alone.

He’s driven by a simple belief: well-maintained, thoroughly documented cycling routes strengthen regional economies while preserving the natural character of Czech waterways. That philosophy shapes everything he does.

Notable Work

Key Contributions to Czech Cycling Infrastructure

Achievements that shaped how cyclists experience Czech river routes

01

Vltava Complete Route Guide Development

Created the first comprehensive, regularly updated guide to the Vltava riverside cycling network. This resource is now used by tourism boards and referenced in official regional cycling materials. The guide covers seasonal conditions, difficulty levels, and practical logistics for cyclists of all experience levels.

02

Elbe Trail Safety Assessment Project

Led a multi-year field research initiative to assess the safety and condition of Elbe Trail sections. His findings influenced regional investments in trail maintenance and infrastructure improvements. This work directly resulted in improved signage, safer bridge crossings, and better emergency access points.

03

Morava River Hidden Sections Documentation

Discovered and documented lesser-known sections of the Morava river cycling route, bringing attention to underutilized trails. His work helped local communities understand the economic potential of cycling tourism and led to improved local infrastructure and services for cyclists.

04

Waterway Route Planning Educational Series

Developed a comprehensive educational framework teaching cyclists how to plan multi-day waterway routes. The series addresses practical concerns like accommodation logistics, water crossing points, weather considerations, and sustainable tourism practices.

05

Regional Tourism Board Consulting

Worked directly with multiple regional tourism boards to develop sustainable cycling tourism strategies. His recommendations have shaped how these regions market and maintain their cycling infrastructure while protecting the natural environment.

06

Seasonal Cycling Conditions Research

Created detailed seasonal condition reports for major Czech river cycling routes. These resources help cyclists make informed decisions about when and where to ride, improving safety and satisfaction. The work continues quarterly with updated information throughout the year.

Approach & Philosophy

How Tomáš Approaches Route Development

“Well-maintained, thoroughly documented cycling routes strengthen regional economies while preserving the natural character of Czech waterways. That’s not just something we say — it’s what we actually do.”

Field-Based Research

Tomáš doesn’t rely on theory or office analysis. He cycles the routes regularly, personally assessing conditions, identifying problems, and documenting changes. This hands-on approach ensures all recommendations are grounded in real experience.

Practical, Tested Knowledge

Every piece of advice comes from personal experience or verified field research. He won’t recommend a route he hasn’t cycled. He won’t suggest logistics he hasn’t tested. This commitment to authenticity is what makes the resources genuinely useful.

Accessibility for All Levels

Routes are documented in ways that serve experienced cyclists and nervous beginners equally. Clear difficulty assessments, detailed logistical information, and realistic time estimates help everyone make informed decisions about where to ride.

Sustainable Tourism Focus

Development always considers environmental impact and community benefit. The goal isn’t to maximize cyclist traffic — it’s to create sustainable cycling tourism that strengthens local economies without damaging the natural landscape.
